RIYADH: The Defense Ministry of the Kingdom announced on Wednesday that the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces are participating in a multinational military drill in the Turkish city of Izmir.

Before the EFES 2024 field exercise phase began, the Saudi units arrived in Turkiye and were welcomed by Commodore Adel Al-Kalthami, the military attaché at the Saudi embassy in Ankara, Brig. Gen. Nasser Al-Suhaimi, the Kingdom’s director of the exercise, and officers from various branches of the Armed Forces.

The drill has two main stages. On April 25 and ending on Wednesday, there was a command-center exercise conducted at the Joint Command Training Center in Izmir and the Multinational War Center in Istanbul. Starting on Friday and lasting until May 30, the second phase entails live-firing field exercises at Izmir’s Doganbey Firing and Exercise Area.

He continued, “The exercise gives participating nations’ forces a chance to train together in joint operation planning and coordination in a variety of environments, improve combat effectiveness, and strengthen military cooperation.

Using light weapons loaded with live ammunition and other weapons, the Saudi units and their international counterparts will conduct a variety of field maneuvers on land and in the water, including sea-landing operations, search and rescue missions, and responses to drone threats. Al-Balawi stated.
