Canadian Delegation Denied Entry to the Occupied West Bank by Israel

OTTAWA, Ontario: A private Canadian delegation of six members of Parliament was prevented from entering the occupied West Bank by Israel on Tuesday. The group was refused admission, according to the Israeli Embassy in Canada, because of its connections to Islamic Relief Worldwide, a nongovernmental organization that Israel considers to be a terrorist organization.

In a social media post, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand stated that Canada had voiced its “objections regarding the mistreatment of these Canadians. Iqra Khalid, an Ontario member of parliament for Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal party, claimed that while she was a member of the group, Israeli border guards repeatedly shoved her.

After the party had been at the Allenby border crossing between Jordan and the Israeli-occupied West Bank, she claimed she was shoved for attempting to check on a member of the about thirty-person delegation who had been pulled aside for further interrogation.

Khalid claimed that because the border guards had confiscated her unique passport, which differs from a typical Canadian paper, they could tell she was a politician. Israel “will not allow the entry of organizations and individuals who are associated with designated terror entities,” according to a statement from the Israeli Embassy.
