RIYADH/JEDDAH: The crescent moon for the Hijri month of Shawwal has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, signalling the end of Ramadan, the Saudi Supreme Court announced on Saturday. Eid Al-Fitr, the annual Islamic celebration during the first five days of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Hijri calendar, begins on Sunday, March 30. The Eid Al-Fitr prayer will be held across the Kingdom on Sunday, shortly after sunrise.
Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Alsheikh has directed the ministry’s branches to hold the prayer in all designated Eid prayer areas and mosques — with the exception of those adjacent to Eid prayer areas, where residents will use their local Eid prayer areas instead — and to make all necessary preparations, including maintenance and cleaning, to ensure a comfortable and tranquil experience. The Kingdom now has 19,887 mosques and prayer spaces.
Maher Aldossary, a Riyadh native, expressed his excitement for Eid. “The happiness of Eid is already in the air. We are saying farewell to the blessed days of Ramadan and looking forward to Eid with open hearts,” he remarked.
“Families are busy arranging new outfits, gathering beautiful chocolates, and ensuring that everything is ready for the festivities and breakfast feast. The streets are filled with activity, and you can sense the enthusiasm everywhere,” Aldossary said.
