Due to Israel's Sanctions, the Dutch Foreign Minister Resigned

THE HAGUE: After a cabinet meeting failed to agree on penalties against Israel, Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp resigned on Friday. After a cabinet discussion on potential penalties on Israel came to a standstill, Veldkamp told ANP, “I see that I am insufficiently able to take meaningful additional measures to increase pressure on Israel.”

Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, two far-right Israeli ministers, were deemed undesirable in the Netherlands by Veldkamp last month.

He stated on Thursday that he wanted to take more action against Israel, but he subsequently admitted that he wasn’t sure he could do so in the upcoming weeks or months.
The minister claimed that although his suggested actions were “seriously discussed,” they ran into opposition in subsequent cabinet sessions. As foreign minister, I feel limited in determining the path I believe is required,” he stated.

On Thursday, 21 nations, including the Netherlands, signed a joint statement denouncing Israel’s approval of a significant West Bank settlement project as “unacceptable and contrary to international law.
