Egypt Offers a New Gaza ceasefire and Prisoners Deal Plan

Egypt Offers a New Gaza ceasefire and Prisoners Deal Plan

Egypt has offered a new plan aimed at securing a truce and prisoner exchange between Israel and Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip, Israeli media reported Friday. According to Israeli public television KAN, the suggestion was submitted within the last 24 hours as part of Egypt’s efforts to bridge the gap between Israel and Hamas.

According to the source, the new Egyptian offer lies between the first mediation proposal, which includes the release of five living Israeli detainees, and Israel’s counterproposal, which calls for the release of eleven living captives. Details of the new terms have not been published, and Egyptian authorities have yet to respond.

The discovery comes amid increased hostilities, with Israel’s army starting a surprise bombing campaign on March 18 that has killed 1,249 Palestinians and injured over 3,000, breaking the fragile ceasefire and prisoner transfer arrangement reached in January.

Since the conflict began in October 2023, more than 50,600 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been slain in Gaza. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, alleging war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel is also facing a genocide prosecution before the International Court of Justice.
