Exceptional Saudis Selected as Rhodes Scholars to Study at Oxford

Three talented Saudis, Osama Aljohani, Omar Alomran, and Osama Dabbousi, have been awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarships and will head to the University of Oxford in October next year. They will join over a hundred scholars from around the world to begin their fully funded postgraduate studies.

Established in 1902, the Rhodes Scholarship is considered the world’s oldest and most renowned graduate fellowship. The first Saudi scholarship was introduced in 2018 through a donation from Mohammed Alagil, with additional support from Abdulrahman Alagil Sons the co-founders of Jarir Bookstore in cooperation with the Saudi Ministry of Education.

Since its inception, 18 students from Saudi Arabia have received the Rhodes Scholarship, going on to excel in fields such as genetics, medicine and the creative arts. Organizers noted that this year’s recipients continue the kingdom’s growing tradition of academic excellence.

Among the awardees, Aljohani stands out as a senior chemical engineering student at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals specializing in hydrogen mobility.Growing up in Yanbu Industrial City surrounded by refineries and chemical plants inspired his interest in energy, chemicals, and water systems.
