Saudi Arabia and Italy Speak Out Against Israel on Gaza Displacements

Saudi Arabia and Italy on Thursday “unequivocally rejected” the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza, as Israel intensified its bombardment of Gaza City. The principles of non-transfer and non-expulsion must be fully upheld,” the two countries said in a joint statement posted by the Saudi Foreign Ministry on X.

The declaration followed talks in Rome between Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani. It urged an immediate end to the war in Gaza “in line with our joint commitment to achieve a just, secure, comprehensive, and sustainable peace in the Middle East.”

Both nations demanded the immediate release of all hostages and condemned “unilateral or violent actions in the West Bank that undermine the two-state solution.” They also called for unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid throughout Gaza and the release of Palestinian tax revenues withheld by Israel. The statement stressed that any postwar framework must be tied to a clear, time-bound political solution that ends the occupation and delivers a lasting peace.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli military warned that the evacuation of Gaza City was “inevitable” as it pressed an offensive to dismantle the last Hamas strongholds. Families were seen fleeing attacks in the suburbs, adding to mass displacements that have already forced most of Gaza’s two million residents to escape at least once.

Speaking at a press conference in Rome, Prince Faisal condemned Israeli assaults in the occupied West Bank and reaffirmed that Riyadh and Rome share the same position on the urgent need to halt the war in Gaza.
