How Saudi Cities Are Gaining Global Recognition for Growth and Innovation

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia’s major cities have recorded notable progress in global rankings, reflecting the Kingdom’s rapid transformation under Vision 2030. According to the latest Global Cities Report by management consultancy Kearney, cities including Riyadh, Makkah, Madinah, and Dammam have made impressive strides due to ongoing investments in infrastructure, innovation, and overall livability.

The report, which draws from both the Global Cities Index (GCI) and Global Cities Outlook, assesses 158 cities worldwide across key areas such as business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience, and political engagement. It measures a city’s ability to attract and generate global flows of people, ideas, and capital.

Riyadh advanced eight spots to rank 56th globally, showing major improvements in personal well-being and leading the country in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Jeddah also rose by one rank to 83rd, supported by its expanding cultural and commercial scene.

Meanwhile, Makkah, Madinah, and Dammam also improved their positions, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s success in promoting balanced development across multiple regions beyond its capital. After the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) lost its lower house majority last year and suffered significant losses in the July upper house elections, Takaichi’s ascent comes after months of political unrest.
