LONDON: Following the UAE’s withdrawal of its forces from Yemen, Gulf and Arab nations on Tuesday pledged their support for the country’s internationally recognized government. It happened after a consignment of trucks and weaponry intended for southern separatist troops was targeted by airstrikes carried out by the military coalition backing Yemen’s government. Two ships carrying the supply arrived in the port of Al-Mukalla from Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.
The leader of Yemen’s presidential council, Rashad Al-Alimi, ordered Emirati authorities to remove their forces from Yemen within a day early on Tuesday following the attacks. Following their recent seizure of land in the governorates of Hadramaut and Al-Mahra, Saudi authorities stated the separatists, who are backed by the UAE and operate under the Southern Transitional Council, directly threaten the Kingdom’s national security and regional stability.
Qatari officials stated that they were “with keen interest” in the developments. Doha completely backed Yemen’s legitimate government, according to the country’s foreign ministry, which also emphasized the significance of maintaining the nation’s unity and defending the rights of the Yemeni people.
