RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) has helped UAE authorities foil an attempt to smuggle 89,760 amphetamine pills, the Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday.
Brig. Gen. Talal bin Shalhoub, the ministry’s security spokesman, said the pills were concealed in a shipment of clothing accessories. He noted that close monitoring of drug trafficking networks, along with intelligence sharing between Saudi and UAE authorities, led to the successful operation.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) reported 1,371 seizures of banned items at land, air, and sea ports in just one week. These included 47 cases involving narcotics such as hashish, cocaine, heroin, shabu, and captagon, along with 333 cases of other prohibited substances.
Authorities also intercepted 1,046 smuggling attempts of tobacco products, handled 15 cases linked to large sums of money, and recorded three incidents involving weapons and related accessories, SPA reported. ZATCA assured the public that all reports of smuggling will be handled confidentially and that individuals providing accurate information are eligible for financial rewards.
