Hamas on Friday released a video showing two Israeli hostages taken from a music festival in October 2023, with one stating he was being held in Gaza City — the focus of Israel’s latest offensive against the group.
The hostages, identified as Guy Gilboa-Dalal and Alon Ohel, are among 48 people still in Hamas captivity. Israeli authorities believe only 20 of them are alive. Hamas originally abducted 251 people during its cross-border raid that killed around 1,200 Israelis, sparking the war. Since then, more than 64,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza health officials, with the enclave left devastated and its residents facing a severe humanitarian crisis.
The edited footage shows Gilboa-Dalal, looking fatigued, speaking for over three minutes from the back of a moving car. He says he is in Gaza City with other hostages and fears being killed by Israel’s assault, which began on August 10. Israel claims to now control about 40% of the city.
Gaza health authorities reported 30 Palestinian deaths on Friday, including 20 in Gaza City, as Israeli forces bombed several high-rise buildings. Hamas continues to block Red Cross access to hostages.
