The Indian business community in the UAE has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the country on Friday, May 15, as a “Cepa 2.0 moment” as a “new strategic milestone” in the relationship of the two countries. Modi arrived in the UAE earlier on Friday and was received with a guard of honour and a hearty hug from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as he walked off the aircraft.
Faizal Kottikolon, Chairman, UAE-India Business Council – UAE Chapter (UIBC-UC), said the relationship has now progressed from being just commercial. “What started decades ago through trade, migration and people-to-people ties has grown into a partnership with strategic depth, institutional maturity and a shared vision that is about much more than economics,” he stated.
Many in the business community are now seeing a ‘Cepa 2.0’ moment ahead, referring to the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and India, and this moment is less about signing agreements and more about unlocking capabilities especially for emerging businesses,” he noted.
