In a Single Week, The Kingdom Apprehends 23,167 Illegals

RIYADH: According to the Saudi Press Agency on Saturday, Saudi officials detained 23,167 individuals in a single week for violating laws pertaining to residency, employment, and border security. A total of 5,511 persons were detained for attempting to cross the border illegally, 3,131 for labor-related reasons, and 14,525 for violating residence restrictions. 69% of the 1,593 individuals detained for attempting to enter the Kingdom illegally were Ethiopian, 30% were Yemeni, and 1% were of other nationalities, according to the report.

According to the SPA, 22 persons were detained for their roles in concealing and transporting violators, while 41 others were apprehended while attempting to enter nearby nations. According to the Ministry of Interior, anybody caught helping someone enter the Kingdom illegally—including by offering them a place to stay or transportation—may be imprisoned for up to 15 years, fined up to SR1 million ($267,000), and have their property and cars seized. The toll-free numbers for reporting suspected infractions are 911 in Makkah and Riyadh and 999 or 996 in other parts of the Kingdom.
