In Barely More Than Two Months, Riyadh Metro Has Recorded Over 18 Million Passengers

RIYADH: Since its opening on December 1, 2024, the Riyadh Metro has carried over 18 million passengers, the Saudi Press Agency said Friday. With its six-line network, the metro has now made over 162,000 journeys, spanning over 4.5 million kilometres. The Blue Line, which runs north-south parallel to Olaya Street, has been the most popular, carrying close to 10 million people in just two months, according to the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.

This line is well-liked by commuters because it passes through some of Riyadh’s most inhabited and commercially active regions. With more than three million passengers, the King Abdullah Financial District station has the most users. In order to handle the capital’s quick growth and growing traffic, the Riyadh Metro was created. The 176-kilometer system has air-conditioned cabins, driverless trains, separate seats for various passenger groups, and cutting-edge automation.

By combining the metro with the Riyadh Bus network, a comprehensive public transport system is created that can be used using wireless card payments or tickets bought at stations or via the Darb app. The Riyadh Metro is an essential part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the larger King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public Transportation.
