In "Tiny Homes," a Mexican Artist Showcases Both Mexican and Saudi Culture

RIYADH: Erika Place, a Mexican artist who has spent 14 years in Riyadh, emphasises important aspects of both Mexican and Saudi culture in her artwork. Place incorporates important aspects of both cultures in her recycled-material creations, such as Mexican-inspired colours, architecture, and significant Saudi monuments like the Kingdom and Faisaliah buildings. “I was inspired in Saudi Arabia,” Place told Arab News at her recent show, “Tiny Homes,” which was held at the Mexican ambassador’s home in Riyadh.

After 14 years here, I feel at home and consider this location to be my home. Although I really miss Mexico, I don’t feel at home here,” she remarked. Place was born in Guadalajara, but at an early age, he relocated to Europe. She had always loved painting, but it wasn’t until she and her husband relocated to Saudi Arabia in 2012 that she became aware of her abilities. Her creative vision was achieved in the Kingdom Place, and she started to find inspiration in the people, architecture, and landscapes of the nation.

She told Arab News, “I made this my home and it’s been a beautiful experience.”Anibal Gomez-Toledo, the ambassador of Mexico to Saudi Arabia, presented the show and shared his thoughts on Place’s artwork. She is an artist who learnt on her own, and her work is amazing. The result is remarkable after years of dedication and preparation’, Gomez-Toledo stated.
