India joined a U.S.-led effort on Friday to improve technology cooperation between critical allies. This shows how the two countries’ ties are getting stronger after a brief period of tension over New Delhi’s continued purchase of cheap Russian oil.
The decision brings India closer to Washington’s efforts to develop safe supply chains for semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, and other important technology. This is happening at a time when rivalry with China is getting worse. It also means that things are back to normal after problems with tariffs and energy trading. Japan, South Korea, the U.K., and Israel are all members of the Pax Silica framework.
Pax Silica will be a group of countries that think technology should help free people and free markets.” India’s joining Pax Silica isn’t merely a symbol. “It’s strategic, it’s essential,” said U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor in a speech before the pact was signed.
Pax Silica’s goal is to improve collaboration between partner countries on designing, making, researching, and making the supply chain more resilient for semiconductors. The goal of the project is to lessen reliance on manufacturing centers in China and promote trusted production networks across democracies and important allies.
