Israel-Palestine Conflict Not Beyond Solution, Says Saudi FM

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Thursday that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can be resolved if there is genuine political will, stressing that the issues at hand are not impossible to overcome. Speaking to Arab News on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, he emphasized that a negotiated process between both sides could lead to the establishment of a viable and sustainable Palestinian state capable of coexisting peacefully with Israel.

His remarks followed the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, which produced the New York Declaration. The declaration, endorsed overwhelmingly by the UNGA lays out a roadmap for a two-state solution, including steps on governance security, humanitarian aid economic recovery and accountability.

It also calls for an immediate Gaza ceasefire, reunification with the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority exclusion of Hamas a temporary UN stabilization mission and a halt to Israeli settlement expansion. Prince Faisal reiterated that the two-state solution is the only path to lasting peace urging sustainable reconstruction in Gaza tied to a political resolution to prevent future cycles of destruction.
