JERUSALEM: After learning that a Palestinian who killed two people originated in the town of Qabatiya in the occupied West Bank, Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz gave the order on Friday for the military to begin an operation there.
According to a statement from Katz’s office, the minister gave the Israeli forces orders to “act forcefully and immediately against the village of Qabatiya, from which the murderous terrorist emerged, in order to locate and thwart every terrorist and strike the village’s terror infrastructure.” The whole price would be paid by anyone who supports or encourages terrorism, it continued.
In another statement, the military claimed it was getting ready to launch an operation in Qabatiya, in the northern West Bank, where there had been numerous violent incidents. The minister’s action was prompted by Friday’s car-ramming and stabbing atrocity in northern Israel.
The attack occurred one day after a Palestinian man in the West Bank, where violence has increased since the start of the Gaza War, was struck by an Israeli military reservist wearing civilian clothing.
In a statement regarding Friday’s attack, Israeli police stated that the victim was a 68-year-old man and that preliminary investigation shows this was a rolling terror attack that started in the city of Beit Shean, where a pedestrian was run over.
