Israel’s Proposal to Occupy Gaza is Denounced as a Crime Against Humanity by the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee

Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee

Israel’s announcement of its intention to impose full military control over the Gaza Strip has been denounced by the ministerial committee on developments in Gaza, which the Joint Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit mandated. The committee described the announcement as an attempt to solidify the illegal occupation, a blatant violation of international law, and a crime against humanity.

The committee, which was made up of the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Nigeria, Palestine, Qatar, Turkey, and a number of other member states, emphasized that such actions destroy any chance for peace, sabotage regional and global efforts to de-escalate the situation, and worsen the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

The committee demanded in a joint statement released in Riyadh on Saturday that Israeli aggression end immediately and completely, that the siege of Gaza be lifted, and that humanitarian aid, including food, medication, and fuel, be provided without conditions.

It supported mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to reach a truce, exchange hostages and captives, and put a stop to the continuous suffering, while also calling for the protection of people and civilian infrastructure in conformity with international humanitarian law.
