ISTANBUL: In collaboration with Libyan authorities, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that the technical examination of the recovered black boxes from a jet crash that claimed eight lives, including the military leader of western Libya, has begun.
Everyone on board was killed when the private plane carrying Gen. Muhammad Ali Ahmad Al-Haddad, four other military leaders, and three crew members crashed on Tuesday after taking off from Ankara, the capital of Turkey. According to Libyan officials, the plane’s technical issue was the reason of the disaster.
After having defense negotiations in Ankara with the goal of strengthening military cooperation between the two nations, the high-level Libyan team was returning to Tripoli. According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, the wreckage was dispersed over a 3 square kilometer (more than a square mile) area, making rescue attempts more difficult.
To help with the probe, a delegation of 22 people including five family members—arrived early on Wednesday from Libya. After a business plane carrying Libyan Chief of Staff General Muhammad Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad crashed two kilometers south of Kesikkavak Village in the Haymana district of Ankara, members of the Libyan military delegation arrived at the wreckage site.
