Jordan Cracks Down on Arms and Drug Smuggling Operations

LONDON: Along the northern border with Syria, a number of drug gangs engaged in the smuggling of guns and drugs were targeted by the Jordanian military. On Wednesday, the military declared that it had targeted a number of industries and workshops that gangs engaged in the trafficking of drugs and weapons used as bases to conduct illegal operations toward the center of Jordanian territory.

According to the Petra news agency, after collecting intelligence and working with regional partners, the Armed Forces demolished the locations. The Jordanian army attacked “drug smuggling networks and storage farms in the southern and eastern countryside” of Sweida, in southern Syria, according to a Telegram post by Syrian official media outlet Al-Ikhbariya.

According to The Petra, the Jordanian Army is ready to fight anyone who poses a threat to the safety of the country and its people, using force when necessary. Criminal organizations launched illegal activities toward the center of Jordanian territory from the locations around the northern border.
