RIYADH: From the start of the year to October, Jordan’s Consumer Price Index increased 1.56 percent to 110.58 points, up from 108.88 points in 2023. This increase was mostly caused by higher prices for particular goods and services. According to the Petra news agency, personal items increased by 11.6 percent, while water and sanitation services increased by 7.34 percent. Tobacco goods contributed 3.53 percent, rental expenses contributed 3.86 percent, and union dues contributed 5.86 percent.
The consumer price index increased by 0.76 percent from October 2023 to October 2021, reaching 110.61 points. Price increases of 21.38 percent for personal items, 7.34 percent for water and sanitation services, 6.77 percent for tobacco, and 4.82 percent for food seasonings and enhancers all contributed to the monthly increase. Decreases in categories like fruits and nuts (down 6.92 percent), vegetables and pulses (down 6.31 percent), furniture and carpets (down 3.04 percent), and fuel and lighting (down 2.74%) somewhat offset these increases.
Between September and October, the CPI stayed constant. A number of categories showed slight price declines, including meat and poultry (down 1.81 percent), fruits and nuts (down 1.24 percent), and culture and recreation (down 0.95 percent). Fuel and lighting costs dropped by 0.65 percent, and transportation costs dropped by 0.72 percent. Concurrently, Jordan’s industrial output index increased by 0.48 percent overall through September, rising to 87.63 points from 87.22 points in the same period the previous year.
