AMMAN: According to state news agency PETRA, Jordan’s King Abdullah II swore in a new cabinet on Wednesday, with Jaafar Hassan serving as both the prime minister and the minister of defence.
The reformist government was responsible for expediting reforms supported by the IMF and advancing plans for political and economic modernisation.
Ayman Safadi will hold the positions of minister of foreign affairs and expatriates as well as deputy prime minister in the incoming administration. Following some victories for the Islamist opposition in parliamentary elections earlier this week, Bisher Khasawneh’s government tendered its resignation to King Abdullah II.
Hassan, a well-liked technocrat, took over for the seasoned diplomat and former advisor to the palace, Al-Khasawneh, who was thought to be the prime minister with the longest tenure under King Abdullah II. Jordan’s former minister of planning was the new prime minister. In Cambridge, Massachusetts, at Harvard University, he completed his education. In addition, he oversees King Abdullah’s office.
Ayman Safadi is the new government’s deputy prime minister, minister of foreign affairs, and expatriate. According to the royal palace, prior to the parliamentary election, Jordan’s King Abdullah II nominated Jaafar Hassan, his chief of staff, to be the country’s next prime minister. He was tasked with forming a government.
