RIYADH: On Monday, the first anniversary of Syria’s Liberation Day, Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa received congratulations from King Salman of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Al-Sharaa-led Syrian forces overthrew Bashar Assad’s government on December 8, 2024, ending the Assad family’s more than 50 years of rule.
President Ahmad Al-Sharaa of the Syrian Arab Republic received a cable from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, congratulating him on the celebration of his nation’s Liberation Day, according to the Saudi Press Agency. The SPA further stated that Al-Sharaa received a cable of congratulations from the crown prince.
In February, Al-Sharaa made Saudi Arabia his first overseas trip as the nation’s new president. In May, the crown prince arranged a meeting between Al-Sharaa and US President Donald Trump in the Kingdom, where Washington declared it would withdraw sanctions on Syria.
