Kuwait-Saudi Rail Link Takes Shape as Talks Show Positive Results

Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah announced on Wednesday that the country’s ambitious reform agenda is making progress in the development of a rail link between Kuwait City and Riyadh.

Al-Sabah stated at the World Governments Summit in Dubai that Kuwait’s objective was to establish itself as a regional logistical center by implementing initiatives such as the construction of the new Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, the expansion of the airport, and the establishment of new rail connections.

We have also signed contracts for feasibility studies and design for the railway project and made progress on the rail link between Riyadh and Kuwait,” he stated. This strategic logistics system, comprising sea, air, and land transport, facilitates economic growth and diversifies connectivity.

Construction is scheduled to commence this year on the 650 km rail project, which is anticipated to be a component of a broader Gulf Cooperation Council network. Al-Sabah stated in a comprehensive speech that his nation was in the process of swiftly reforming its fiscal policy in order to modernise its economy. This includes implementing a Financing and Liquidity Law to establish a formal legislative framework for managing public debt and financial obligations.
