Washington: Elon Musk said on Saturday that the “America Party is formed,” a day after he asked his followers on X if a new political party in the US should be established. In a post on X, he declared, “You want a new political party and you will have it by a factor of two to one.” The America Party was established today to restore your freedom.
Musk made the statement following President Donald Trump’s Friday signing of a tax and spending measure that the billionaire Tesla CEO vehemently opposed. Musk oversaw the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency, which intended to reduce government expenditure, and contributed hundreds of millions to Trump’s reelection. However, the two have subsequently disagreed over the bill.
Earlier this week, Trump threatened to stop providing Musk’s firms with the billions of dollars in federal subsidies. In the past, Musk has stated that he would launch a new political party and invest funds to remove MPs who backed the measure. Republicans are concerned that Musk’s intermittent conflict with Trump may make it more challenging for them to retain their majority in the 2026 midterm elections.
