Nearly a Million Homeless Gazans are Impacted by the Extreme Cold

Over a million displaced Palestinians in Gaza could be in risk this winter due to extreme cold and rain, the UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) has warned, according to a media source. “The displaced people in Gaza require shelter from the rain and cold.” Only only 23% of this demand has been met, according to a statement from the UN agency, leaving 945,000 people at danger of exposure this winter. “Aid is desperately needed to address the overwhelming needs as the crisis worsens.”

The UN also reaffirmed its call for a ceasefire in Gaza as Israeli bombardment devastated houses and the death toll increased. “People in Deir Al Balah and throughout Gaza sift through the debris of their destroyed homes, trying to salvage what little remains after an Israeli airstrike,” the UN agency for Palestinian refugees wrote in a post on X. More civilians are murdered as strikes continue, and homes and vital infrastructure are damaged. The human cost of this conflict is unacceptable. We need a ceasefire immediately.

Separately, a news source said that since the start of the Israeli offensive last year, there have been over 4,000 amputations and 2,000 cases of brain and spinal injury in Gaza. “The majority of those who have lost limbs are children,” stated Muhammad Abu Salmiya, director of Al Shifa Medical Complex.
