JERUSALEM: Five Israeli settlers were detained by Israeli security forces on Thursday for allegedly participating in an attack on a Palestinian home in the occupied West Bank that injured a baby girl. According to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, the eight-month-old baby sustained “moderate injuries to the face and head” in the late Wednesday attack.
It accused “a group of armed settlers” of “throwing stones at homes and property” in the town of Sair, which is located north of Hebron. Five people were detained for “alleged involvement in serious, violent incidents in the village of Sair,” according to an Israeli police statement.
A Palestinian girl was hurt, according to information that Israeli security personnel had received about “stones being thrown by Israeli civilians toward a Palestinian home.”The statement stated, “The preliminary investigation determined the involvement of several suspects who came from a nearby outpost,” alluding to Israeli settlements that are not formally recognized by Israeli authorities. The international community views all Israeli settlements in the West Bank as unlawful. Although many of those are subsequently granted official status, others are also prohibited under Israeli law.
