Prince Turki Al-Faisal Warns: Gulf’s Common Security Under Serious Threat

Former Saudi ambassador to the US and UK, Prince Turki Al-Faisal, has warned that the security of Gulf countries is now under serious threat following Israel’s recent attack on Qatar. Speaking on Sunday at the Dean of Ambassadors’ Gala Dinner in Riyadh, held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Arab News, Prince Turki strongly condemned Israel’s Sept. 9 strike in which Hamas leaders meeting in Qatar to discuss a ceasefire were targeted. He described the attack as “treacherous” and a violation of Qatari sovereignty.

“The Gulf region is currently facing a dangerously aggressive attack by Israel on Qatar. This is a clear reminder that the common security of Gulf states is at risk from a pariah state that disregards international rules and laws,” he said.

Prince Turki emphasised that the incident should prompt Gulf nations to reassess their strategic security policies. “This attack is an eye-opener, raising questions about the credibility of alliances when the threat comes from Israel. Our states must rethink their strategies and ensure that Israel is not given a free hand,” he added.

During his speech, Prince Turki also reflected on his role in establishing Arab News in 1975 and congratulated the newspaper’s team on reaching its golden jubilee. He further touched on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stressing the importance of international efforts, particularly from the US, in working toward peace.
