We recently had the privilege of interviewing Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace. Ahmed is a dedicated, proactive person with a drive to make a broad impact on tolerance and peace in the Arab and global communities. He possesses extensive experience leading and managing projects, guiding to promote tolerance and peace.
In this insightful interview, Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan speaks about the role of the council in ensuring and encouraging peace and tolerance, triumphs of the organ, and offers valuable suggestions for aspiring professionals in this field.
Goals Of GCTP
We started the interview by asking, “Could you describe the vision and primary goals of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace when it was first established?”
Ahmed shared, “The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) was founded with a grand vision of cultivating a global environment where tolerance and peace flourish. Formally declared in November 2017 in Valletta, Malta, during the signing of headquarters, privileges, and immunities agreements with the Maltese government, the GCTP embodies a commitment to promoting noble human objectives across borders. Led by H.E. Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, the GCTP operates on democratic principles, drawing inspiration from international law and covenants to shape its work system.”
He added, “The Global Council on Trade and Tourism (GCTP) primarily aimed to address global challenges by promoting dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among nations, fostering a sense of collective responsibility for tolerance and peace, transcending geopolitical boundaries and cultural divides.
The GCTP aimed to combat intolerance, discrimination, and conflict by addressing issues like inequality and lack of access to education and economic opportunities. They advocated for policies promoting equality, human rights, and social cohesion, aiming to create a just and harmonious world. Through education, dialogue, and cultural exchange, they aimed to promote understanding and empathy between different communities while countering extremism and xenophobia. Their vision was rooted in human dignity, equality, and peace, and they aimed to create a more tolerant and inclusive world.”
Successful Initiatives At Business
Eager to learn more about the initiatives that are successfully carried out by Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan for his business, we asked, “As President, what have been some of the most significant initiatives you have led or been a part of with the Council?”
He replied, “As President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, I have spearheaded several significant initiatives aimed at advancing our mission of fostering tolerance and peace worldwide. One of the most notable achievements during my tenure has been the establishment of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP). Through tireless efforts, we successfully brought together representatives from over 100 state members, creating a dynamic platform for global cooperation and dialogue on issues related to tolerance and peace.
Additionally, I have led the Council in forging strategic partnerships and signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with various national and international parliaments, organizations, and institutions. Notably, we have become an observatory member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), further solidifying our commitment to global collaboration in promoting tolerance and peace.”
“I am proud to have established the General Assembly for Tolerance and Peace, bringing together 50 universities, NGOs, and individuals worldwide to foster tolerance and peace. This diverse assembly inspires innovative initiatives. We have launched books and academic programs promoting understanding and dialogue. The Master’s program in Tolerance Studies and Global Peace, in collaboration with UCAM University, has provided 24 scholarships to diverse students. Overall, these initiatives showcase our commitment to global tolerance and peace.” Ahmed added.

We further asked, “How does the Council engage with different countries and international organizations to promote tolerance and peace?”
Ahmed replied, “The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) engages with different countries and international organizations to promote tolerance and peace through its two main organs, the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP) and the General Assembly for Tolerance and Peace (GATP). These organs serve as platforms for dialogue, collaboration, and action, facilitating engagement with diverse stakeholders at the national, regional, and international levels.
- Signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs): The GCTP collaborates with parliaments and international organizations through MoUs to promote tolerance, peace, and sharing practices. IPTP and GATP help implement these agreements.
- Participation in International Forums and Conferences: The GCTP engages in international forums promoting tolerance, peace, and conflict resolution through its platforms.
- Hosting Sessions and Workshops: IPTP and GATP organize sessions globally to promote tolerance, peace, dialogue, and knowledge-sharing among various stakeholders.

He shared, “One significant achievement of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) that had a profound impact on promoting peace and tolerance is the establishment of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP). This platform serves as a global legislative body dedicated to advancing the principles of tolerance, understanding, and peaceful coexistence among nations.
The IPTP’s creation marked a milestone in international efforts to promote peace and tolerance, providing parliamentarians from around the world with a forum to engage in dialogue, share best practices, and advocate for legislative measures that uphold these values.”
“The Inter-Parliamentary Treaty (IPTP) promotes tolerance and peace by bringing representatives from diverse countries and political backgrounds together. It has successfully adopted joint resolutions and legislative initiatives, addressing issues like interfaith dialogue, cultural exchange, and hate speech. As an observatory member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the IPTP collaborates with other international bodies and advocates for policy changes.

He shared, “The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) faces various challenges in its mission to promote peace and tolerance worldwide. One significant challenge is navigating the complex geopolitical landscape and overcoming political barriers to cooperation. In many regions, conflicts, and tensions persist, hindering efforts to foster mutual understanding and dialogue.
The GCTP uses diplomacy, dialogue, and engagement to address global challenges such as conflict resolution and countering extremism. It promotes tolerance, inclusivity, and respect for diversity through education and advocacy initiatives. To overcome logistical and resource constraints, the GCTP partners with governments, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to maximize impact and build more resilient societies.
Moreover, the GCTP faces challenges in sustainability and scalability but remains committed to promoting peace and tolerance through innovative approaches, strategic partnerships, and core values. We asked, “How has the concept of tolerance evolved in recent years, and what role does the Council play in shaping this narrative?”
Ahmed responded, “In recent years, the concept of tolerance has evolved from merely accepting differences to actively embracing diversity and promoting inclusivity. This shift reflects a growing recognition of the importance of tolerance as a cornerstone of peaceful coexistence in an increasingly interconnected world.
The GCTP promotes tolerance and peace by highlighting the interconnectedness of diverse communities and shared values. It combats intolerance and discrimination through educational initiatives, awareness campaigns, and advocacy efforts.”
He continued, “Moreover, the GCTP champions tolerance as a fundamental human right, driving sustainable development and prosperity. By championing policies that promote social inclusion, equal opportunities, and respect for human rights, the GCTP contributes to more resilient and harmonious societies.
Overall, the GCTP’s efforts to shape the narrative around tolerance are essential in promoting a more inclusive and peaceful world. By fostering dialogue, challenging stereotypes, and promoting understanding, the GCTP contributes to building a future where tolerance is not only valued but celebrated as a cornerstone of human dignity and coexistence.”

To learn more about the exciting events coming up in the council, we asked, “Could you discuss any upcoming projects or initiatives that the Council is particularly excited about?”
He shared, “The Council is excited about upcoming projects to promote peace and tolerance globally. They are currently focusing on Business Diplomacy, exploring how business leaders can foster understanding and cooperation. The GCTP aims to engage with industry associations and stakeholders to find ways for the private sector to build bridges and address social divides. Through corporate social responsibility, partnerships, and inclusive practices, businesses can drive positive change and advance peace and tolerance worldwide.
To engage religious leaders in promoting tolerance and peace, the GCTP is establishing a platform for collaboration and insight sharing. This move aims to foster coexistence across various cultural and religious communities. Additionally, the Global Tolerance & Peace Lab will serve as an innovation and collaboration platform for peacebuilding. It will bring together students and professionals to showcase ideas and develop communication skills. The GCTP aims to encourage collaboration and sustainable community-driven solutions through this initiative.”
Ahmed further added, “The GCTP is partnering with academic institutions to establish Student Clubs on tolerance and peace, providing students with opportunities for engagement, dialogue, and action. They are also launching a Doctoral Program in Tolerance and Peace for scholars and practitioners seeking to deepen their understanding and contribute to knowledge in the field.
The GCTP continues to drive forward its Master’s Program in Tolerance Studies and Global Peace, as well as books, events, and conferences for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration. They are dedicated to promoting peace and understanding globally through innovative projects and initiatives.”

To understand the perspective of Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan on the common man’s role in encouraging peace, we asked, “In your opinion, how can everyday citizens contribute to the mission of promoting tolerance and peace in their communities?”
He shared, “Everyday citizens play a crucial role in promoting tolerance and peace in their communities through their attitudes, actions, and interactions. Citizens can embrace diversity by respecting and appreciating people from different backgrounds and cultures, fostering inclusivity and understanding.
It involves challenging stereotypes, educating oneself and others about discrimination, and promoting empathy. They can also be open and honest communication encourages constructive conversations while advocating for nonviolent initiatives addresses conflicts and promotes peace.”
“Citizens can actively participate in community organizations, initiatives, and activities that promote tolerance and peace. By volunteering their time, skills, and resources to support peacebuilding efforts, they can make a tangible difference in their communities and beyond. Moreover, they can lead by example by demonstrating kindness, compassion, and empathy in their interactions with others, and inspire others to follow suit and contribute to a more peaceful and harmonious society.
Overall, everyday citizens have the power to make a meaningful impact on promoting tolerance and peace in their communities by embracing diversity, challenging stereotypes, promoting dialogue, supporting peaceful conflict resolution, getting involved, and leading by example. Through their collective efforts, they can help create a world where everyone is valued, respected, and treated with dignity and compassion.” He added.
Addressing Threats: The Right Way With GCTP
“As a leader in peace and tolerance, what do you see as the greatest threats to global peace today, and how should they be addressed?”
He replied, “As a leader in peace and tolerance, specifically as a peace builder and advocate for tolerance, with a career spanning over 45 years, I have had the privilege of working at both the national and international levels to promote peace, dialogue, and understanding.
Throughout my career, I have seen how tolerance can bring about peace and prevent conflicts. From grassroots peacebuilding to leadership in international organizations, I am committed to promoting tolerance in society. I believe that persistent conflicts, both interstate and intrastate, are major threats to global peace. Resolving conflicts through dialogue and peaceful mechanisms is crucial.”
Adding to his points, Ahmed said, “Extremist ideologies and terrorism also undermine peace and security. To counter them, we need strategies that tackle socioeconomic inequalities, promote education and inclusion, and combat radicalization. Political polarization and economic disparities can also destabilize societies, but fostering dialogue, tolerance, and inclusive development policies can mitigate these risks and promote peace.
Environmental challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation threaten global peace and security. Resolving these issues requires collective action, international cooperation, and sustainable development practices. A comprehensive approach is needed, including conflict prevention, peacebuilding, sustainable development, and respect for human rights. Dialogue, education, and cooperation are key to addressing root causes of conflict and building a more peaceful world for future generations.”
