President Vladimir Putin on Friday urged Russia’s aerospace industry to accelerate the development of booster rocket engines, stressing the need to strengthen the country’s position in global space technology.
Speaking during a visit to the southern city of Samara, where he toured the Kuznetsov aircraft engine plant, Putin said Russia must continue renewing its production capacity for rocket engines to meet domestic demand and remain competitive internationally.
It is important to consistently upgrade production, not only to meet our current and future needs, but also to expand into global markets as strong competitors,” Russian news agencies quoted Putin as saying.
He also pointed to Russia’s resilience in the face of Western sanctions imposed after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, noting rapid progress in developing innovative engines for the energy sector. These, he said, are already in use, particularly in gas transport infrastructure.
Putin emphasized the importance of such technology for expanding gas exports, including the proposed Power of Siberia 2 pipeline to China a project he described as mutually beneficial and increasingly urgent as Russia pivots away from Europe.
