RIYADH: On December 1, the Nordic Youth Orchestra will make its debut in Riyadh at Al-Faris International School, where they will deliver “Metsa, an immersive instrumental-visual experience. The orchestra will perform a live piece by Finnish composer Lasse Heikkila, inspired by the seasons, in partnership with the Music Commission and the Saudi Music Hub.
The head producer of the Nordic Orchestra project, Hanna-Marie Laul, told Arab News, “We’re really, really excited.” We’re performing a composition by a Saudi composer and working with some Saudi musicians. The majority of the artists have never been to the Kingdom, Laul added, adding that music builds bridges between nations and it’s just something beautiful that we want to do. Creating music with Saudis is simply lovely. The price is not really important. It’s similar to the heartfelt enthusiasm found in music.
The show combines a Finnish film honoring Estonian and Finnish landscapes and night skies with Nordic-inspired soundtracks. The Nordic Orchestra will accompany Saudi cellist Mohammed Al-Guthmi in one of the solo pieces. Virtuoso Kaur Nellis, Henri Christofer Aavik, Joonatan Rautio, Sonja Kola, Kalervo Kulmala, and Laul are among the other solos.
