Saudi Leadership Extends Condolences on the Passing of Former Kenya PM

Raila Odinga, Kenya’s former prime minister and one of Africa’s most influential statesmen, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 80 while undergoing medical treatment in Kerala, India. According to hospital officials, Odinga suffered a fatal heart attack during his morning walk at an Ayurvedic facility in Koothattukulam. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.​

President William Ruto announced seven days of national mourning and a state funeral, describing Odinga as “Kenya’s foremost statesman and one of Africa’s greatest sons.” Flags across the country and at diplomatic missions abroad will fly at half-mast in honor of the late leader.​ On Wednesday, while on a medical visit to India, Odinga passed away at the age of 80.  Ruto announced a state funeral and seven days of national mourning.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed their heartfelt condolences to President Ruto, Odinga’s family, and the Kenyan people. The Kingdom’s leaders praised Odinga’s lifelong contributions to democracy and unity in Kenya, calling him a visionary whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.
