Saudi Arabia's Energy Minister Announces Plans to Enrich and Sell Uranium

DHAHRAN — Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, announced plans to enrich and sell uranium. “Saudi Arabia intends to invest in every material, including uranium. We will enhance and sell it,” he stated at the iktva Forum & Exhibition 2025, hosted by Saudi Aramco in Dhahran.

Prince Abdulaziz stated that the Jabal Sayid mineralised area in the Madinah region has a variety of minerals, including uranium. “The basic resources for industries will be available to us to achieve energy security,” according to him. The energy minister stated that Saudi Arabia is aiming to localise modern technology and businesses, with the petrochemical sector being a significant focus for the future.

He claimed that around 60 contracts had been inked in the manufacturing sector to focus on renewable energy initiatives. “The Kingdom aims to achieve 130 gigawatts of renewable energy, with 20% used as backup energy. “The Saudi economy will grow and develop more than expected,” he stated. “We fear that energy will not meet these aspirations, so the right goal must be set regarding energy and the economy, because without energy there is no prosperous future, and we will not achieve this except through hard work,” according to him. The minister emphasised that the Kingdom is working on infrastructure that will aid in energy transformation and distribution, establishing the necessary points to address all difficulties.
