Saudi-Led Global Palestine Peace Initiative Gains UN Backing

A high-level meeting of the Saudi-led Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution was held on Wednesday at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, bringing together representatives from nearly 100 countries committed to advancing peace between Israel and the Palestinians. The event was co-hosted by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

During the meeting participants strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza and emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire, the disarmament of Hamas and the return of hostages as essential steps toward peace. Many speakers called for strengthening the Palestinian Authority (PA) so that it can govern Gaza in any postwar scenario.

Prince Faisal highlighted the significance of recent New York Declaration adopted by the UN General Assembly which provides a clear roadmap for realizing the two-state solution. He stressed that declarations must translate into real action on the ground and reiterated his call for the PA to be the sole governing body over the Occupied Territories once the Gaza conflict ends. He also praised Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for his ongoing efforts under difficult circumstances. The Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution based on the 1967 borders and securing prosperity for all nations in the region.
