Saudi Nuclear Energy Program Development is Discussed With the IAEA Chief and The Energy Minister

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), met with Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman in Riyadh on Tuesday to talk about the Kingdom’s national nuclear energy program and continued collaboration.

The adoption of the highest international standards for nuclear safety and security, technological and regulatory cooperation, and breakthroughs made possible by Saudi-IAEA cooperation were among the main topics of discussion during the conference.

The International Conference on Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Preparedness and Response, which Saudi Arabia is scheduled to hold in Riyadh in December 2025, was another topic of discussion.

The Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission will be in charge of the event, which will be coordinated in collaboration with the IAEA. The gathering is a reflection of the Kingdom’s continuous efforts to fortify its nuclear infrastructure and develop domestic capabilities through collaborations with other countries. It supports the energy diversification objectives of Vision 2030, which include adding peaceful nuclear energy to the country’s energy mix to improve sustainability.
