An innovative water-saving device that can be fitted to residential taps was created by a group of Saudi students and won an award.
With their gadget, Team Magic AI from King Faisal University, King Khalid University, and King Saud University won the top position and a cash reward of SR20,000 ($5,330) in the first TCS Sustainathon competition.
Tata Consultancy Services, the competition’s organizer, tasked students with creating sustainable urban landscapes.
The winning gadget helps customers cut down on the quantity of water they waste at home by monitoring usage and identifying leaks.
One of the King Saud University winners, Abdulrahman Al-Hassan, stated: “Our objective was to make water conservation attainable for everyone.”
“The TCS Sustainathon gave us a venue to work together and realize our concept. We can’t wait to watch this idea develop and help create a more sustainable future.
The King Khalid Foundation headquarters in Riyadh hosted a panel of judges to hear the ideas of the top 12 teams, who presented their concepts to the competition’s over 300 participants and over 65 submissions.
The CEO of the KKF, Princess Nouf bint Muhammad bin Abdullah, attended the event.
