RIYADH: Under the auspices of Makkah Deputy Governor Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah held a Digital Communication Conference on Tuesday with the topic “Communication: Media and Beyond.” According to the Saudi Press Agency, around 140 scholars, policymakers, and business executives from 56 universities, other institutions, and professional associations from 13 countries are gathered for the three-day event.
The first session, “Government Communication in Crises,” which was led by the official spokesperson for the ministry and assistant minister of health, Dr. Mohammed Al-Abdulaali, was a highlight. He highlighted the vital importance of timely and transparent communication in guiding public opinion, dispelling false information, and fostering societal trust through audience-tailored messaging and verifiable facts, drawing on the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 pandemic response.
He went into depth on tactics including anticipating rumours, engaging on many platforms through press conferences, social media, and government apps, and the significance of making technical information understandable to a wide range of audiences. The conference includes 13 sessions, advisory meetings, a postgraduate research march, interactive workshops, and an exhibition called “Journey of Impact” that highlights achievements in digital communication.
