The Jeddah Water Taxi Project Was Formally Launched

JEDDAH: According to the Jeddah Transport Company, the mayor of the city formally launched the Jeddah Water Taxi project on Thursday. The project’s initial phase links three key areas: Obhur, the city’s ancient Al-Balad neighborhood, and the Jeddah Yacht Club. Future expansion to additional destinations may be possible. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, the deputy minister of transportation and logistical services, was present at the project’s launch event, which was led by Mayor Saleh Al-Turki.

The water taxi project “reflects the Kingdom’s vision to strengthen transport infrastructure and provide modern transportation options that ease the movement of citizens, residents, and visitors, while also serving as a strategic addition to tourism and maritime transport in Jeddah in alignment with Vision 2030 initiatives,” Al-Turki told Arab News, expressing his happiness at the project’s launch.

Many well-known people attended the event, including representatives of the government and leaders of businesses and organizations involved in logistics and transportation. JTC CEO Yousef Al-Sayegh discussed how the project will improve Jeddah’s quality of life and mobility. “The project will contribute to improving the quality of life in Jeddah and enhance safe and efficient marine mobility,” he stated.

The port used to be the quickest and easiest way to get there. We are using air-conditioned water taxis because we wanted to build an engagement that leads to that goal in light of the 2030 vision and the tourism focus. “The water taxi is being trial operated for a limited time by MACNA, a local project operator, to transport passengers between ready and appealing locations in order to test the service, collect data, and comprehend the market.” Al-Sayegh also emphasized a deal with the Ministry of Culture that allows golf carts to be used in Al-Balad for transportation to and from the port.
