The Maiden Meeting of the Saudi-Thai Coordination Council is Held in Bangkok

RIYADH: The inaugural meeting of the Saudi-Thai Coordination Council was conducted in Bangkok on Thursday, marking the latest indicator of improved relations between the two countries after diplomatic ties were restored in 2022. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Thai counterpart Maris Sangiampongsa co-chaired the meeting, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The council strives to strengthen bilateral cooperation in a variety of disciplines, including politics, security and defence, energy, the economy, investment, education, culture, tourism, and other areas of mutual interest.

The co-chairs discussed relations, emphasised the significance of continued coordination, and expressed pleasure with the outcomes of relevant meetings, which resulted in more than 70 collaborative initiatives.

Ties between Saudi Arabia and Thailand froze in the 1980s, but were revived after Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha visited Riyadh on the crown prince’s invitation. Numerous diplomatic, trade, and official trips have followed, with the two governments signing a number of cooperation agreements.

The King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language conducts Arabic language training in Thai colleges, and the Arabic Language Month in Thailand began in November. In November, Riyadh also hosted the Thailand International Mega Fair, which aimed to enhance bilateral trade.
