RIYADH: The UN Population Fund and Saudi humanitarian organization KSrelief have inked a $5.15 million collaboration deal to offer emergency protection for vulnerable populations in Ukraine. 49,360 people will gain from the agreement, the Saudi Press Agency said on Saturday. In Riyadh, Andrew Saberton, the fund’s deputy executive director, and Ahmed Al-Baiz, the KSrelief Assistant Supervisor General for Operations and Programs, signed it.
In the impacted regions of Ukraine, the agreement will provide crucial services pertaining to gender-based violence. Its main goals are to support mobile psychosocial teams and provide safe spaces for women and girls that offer dignity kits, community psychological support, and chances for economic empowerment. It also seeks to improve community psychological support service providers’ capacities.
In order to support sustainable agriculture and strengthen the Yemeni governorates’ agricultural and fishing industries, Al-Baiz also inked a cooperation agreement with the Benevolence Coalition for Humanitarian Relief in Riyadh.
The agreement will provide agricultural inputs like seeds, equipment, safety items, fishing boats, veterinary kits, and greenhouses, which will increase the resilience of farmers and fishermen and support local food production. Additionally, it entails setting up drip irrigation and canal networks, enhancing irrigation by pumping water from wells, and providing teaching on agricultural and fishing methods.
