Turkey Stops all Trade with Israel Due to the Deteriorating Situation for the Palestinian People

ANKARA: Turkey’s trade ministry announced on Thursday that it had ceased all imports and exports to and from Israel due to the “worsening humanitarian tragedy” in the Palestinian territories.
The trade ministry of Turkey released a statement saying, “All products linked to Israel have been the subject of export and import transactions being stopped.”
“Until the Israeli government permits an unbroken and sufficient flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, Turkey will strictly and decisively implement these new measures.”

In 2023, the two nations’ trade volume was $6.8 billion.
Due to what it claimed was Israel’s refusal to permit Ankara to participate in aid airdrop operations for Gaza and its offensive on the enclave, Turkey last month imposed trade restrictions on Israel.

Israel’s foreign minister had earlier on Thursday claimed that Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan was breaching agreements by preventing Israeli imports and exports from entering ports.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote on X, “This is how a dictator behaves, disregarding the interests of the Turkish people and businessmen and ignoring international trade agreements.”
Katz stated that he instructed the foreign ministry to develop trade alternatives with Turkiye, emphasizing domestic production and imports from other nations.
