UAE Facilitates the Exchange of 230 Inmates Between Ukraine and Russia

UAE Facilitates the Exchange of 230 Inmates Between Ukraine and Russia

The first prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine since Ukraine began its offensive inside Russia this month involved the release of 230 prisoners of war, facilitated by the UAE.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the UAE has facilitated seven such exchanges; as a result, 1,788 inmates have been freed as a result of the nation’s mediation efforts since the beginning of the conflict.

The UAE foreign ministry said in a statement that the nation’s mediation efforts, which follow one month after a prior mediation that was successful, demonstrate the strong relations it has with both nations.

The ministry reaffirmed that the United Arab Emirates will back any and all attempts to bring the Russia-Ukraine war to a peaceful end.

The ministry stated, “The only ways to resolve the crisis that will help to lessen its humanitarian impact are dialogue and de-escalation.”

The largest foreign power strike within Russian territory since World War Two was carried out by the Ukrainian military on August 6, when it launched an unexpected attack into the Kursk region of Russia.

Russia, which dispatched tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine in 2022, has reportedly used the territory that Kiev has established a buffer zone in order to bombard targets within Ukraine.
