UAE Moving to East Coast, Eliminating Reliance on Strait of Hormuz, According to top Official

The UAE has already began implementing its zero-Strait-of-Hormuz” plan, with maritime lines primarily relying on the country’s east coast, according to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official. Since the beginning of the regional crisis, Iran has attacked oil ships in the restricted canal in response to attacks by the United States and Israel. To reduce its dependency on the Strait, the UAE has turned to its east coast, specifically Fujairah and Khorfakkan, to circumvent these maritime limits.

Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister for Energy and Sustainability at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa), said the UAE’s energy mix is already diverse, including a 5.6 gigawatt combined nuclear power capacity at the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, which supplies 25% of the UAE’s electricity needs.

Passengers on Saudi Arabia Railroads’ East Network, which runs from Riyadh to Dammam via Abqaiq and Hofuf, made around 393,900 trips during the quarter. The company’s North Network, which connects Riyadh to Majmaah, Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf, and Qurayyat, transported people on 258,600 journeys.

The TGA said the number of train passengers rose compared with the same quarter last year, reflecting rising demand for rail travel across the Kingdom. In comparison, almost 38 million individuals travelled by train during the second quarter. On the freight side, the Kingdom’s trains transported 3.9 million tonnes of minerals and products in the third quarter, up from 3.7 million tonnes in the second.
