DUBAI: As Israeli and US fighter jets continue to hit fresh targets in Iran, the Islamic Republic’s police head announced on Sunday that 500 people had been detained on suspicion of disclosing intelligence to adversaries.
Ahmadreza Radan stated that half of the cases had involved major occurrences, “including people who provided information for hitting targets and individuals who took footage of strike locations and sent them,” although she did not specify when the arrests occurred.
According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, 20 persons were detained in northwest Iran after the provincial prosecutor’s office accused them of giving Israel location information about Iran’s military and security assets.
Tasnim stated that ten persons had been arrested in northeastern Iran, which has been mostly spared from airstrikes. Some of them were suspected of gathering information on important places and economic infrastructure.
According to Tasnim, a regional branch of the Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence unit stated, “As the Zionist enemy (Israel) and the US are attempting to invade Iran, they simultaneously activate mercenaries and spies to carry out riots as the next step.
