Why US Envoy Waltz’s Middle East Visit Matters for the Trump Gaza Peace Plan

NEW YORK: According to the US Mission to the UN, US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz will travel to Jordan and Israel on Saturday to promote President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza. The visit is part of Washington’s efforts to promote regional stability and assist the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803.

Waltz is anticipated to meet with high-ranking officials in both nations during his trip from December 6–10. He will discuss bilateral relations and Amman’s role in delivering humanitarian relief to Gaza with King Abdullah II and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi while in Jordan.

Waltz will meet with President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel to talk about common security priorities and US-Israel cooperation at the UN. He will visit the Kerem Shalom crossing to evaluate humanitarian flows into Gaza, travel Israel’s northern and southern borders for briefings on the implementation of Resolution 2803, and examine the Coordination and Monitoring Mechanism for Gaza’s activities. Additionally, Waltz will meet with Ramiz Alakbarov, the Acting UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, to talk about humanitarian operations and peace initiatives.
