The Saudi Press Agency said on Friday that Saudi Arabia has formally accepted the Asian Physics Olympiad flag as it gets ready to host the 2025 edition of one of the biggest scientific gatherings in Asia.
Malaysia recently hosted the 2024 APhO event in Kampar, and recently gave the symbolic flag to the Kingdom.
In the 2024 tournament, which took place from June 3 to June 10 and included 208 students from 27 countries, the eight-student Saudi Arabian team took home five medals.
The King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, also known as the Mawhiba foundation, and the Ministry of Education, working with King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, are organizing the 25th APhO, which will take place in May 2025 and include participation from about 27 countries, according to SPA.
According to SPA, organizing such an international competition “reflects the great importance and international appreciation of the Kingdom’s position in the scientific and educational field.” Dr. Amal bint Abdullah Al-Hazza is the secretary-general of the Mawhiba foundation.
Additionally, he stated that it “confirms the Kingdom’s strength globally, and the extent of its interest in creating a future to achieve the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.”
“The Kingdom’s dedication to advancing knowledge and science as well as motivating students to take part in these kinds of global events is reflected in this partnership.
