Zelensky Claims That his First Conversation With Polish President-Elect Nawrocki Went Well

Elect Nawrocki

KYIV/WARSAW — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported Thursday that he had a positive first conversation with Karol Nawrocki, the president-elect of Poland, who will take office next week. Zelensky stated on Telegram, “We trust that Poland will continue to be our reliable partner and ally,” highlighting the significance of ongoing political, military, and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine in its struggle against Russia’s invasion.

The two leaders had decided to make formal trips to one other’s nations, Zelensky said. Nawrocki has said that he is against Ukraine joining NATO and the EU, despite his support for Ukraine’s struggle against Russia. He has also brought up concerns about Poland and Ukraine remembering their historical disputes. “Karol Nawrocki emphasized that he speaks for a country that wants Ukraine to reform how it handles significant and as-yet-unresolved historical issues. This needs to change,” Nawrocki spokesperson Rafal Leskiewicz tweeted. The “subject of further discussions” between the leaders would be this, he added.
