71 Suspected Cover-up Incidents Were Found during 2,077 Inspection Visits

In an effort to crack down on suspected cover-up companies, the Anti-Commercial Cover-Up Department conducted 2,077 inspection visits around the Kingdom in April. Seventy-one suspected incidents of cover-up were found during the inspection visits, and those who violated the law were submitted to the appropriate authorities to finish the investigative process and apply deterrent consequences.

The purpose of the visits was to confirm that enterprises were complying with the Anti-Commercial Cover-Up Law and to identify any crimes or infractions. Retail sales of fruit and vegetable stores, men’s salons, building restorations, retail sales of luxury goods and apparel accessories, caterers and restaurants were among the activities that were covered by the inspection visits.

Penalties under the Anti-Commercial Cover-Up Law include a maximum sentence of five years in jail, a fine of up to SR5 million, and the forfeiture and seizure of illegal money following final court decisions against the perpetrators.

These penalties include deportation from the Kingdom, prohibition from returning to Saudi Arabia for employment, closure of the establishment, liquidation of its operations, cancellation of the commercial register, and prohibition from conducting business.
