According to the 7th Global Occupational Safety and Health Conference, which is being held in Riyadh, the number of Saudis employed in occupational safety and health occupations has increased by 130 per cent to over 29,000. By the end of 2024, government plans aim for 72 percent total compliance with safety regulations, while the private sector has also increased to 90 percent.
As part of a plan to link the Kingdom with the rest of the world and turn it into a global logistics hub, the Saudi aviation industry is boldly expanding. By 2030, it plans to service 300 million passengers a year and reach 250 foreign destinations. Overall, the aviation industry generated 270,000 new jobs.
Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), spoke at the conference on Monday and underlined that digital transformation and smart technologies are important pillars for promoting workplace safety and improving security in airports and aviation facilities. He pointed out that given the sector’s tremendous growth and quick development, they are among the GACA’s top goals.
According to Al-Duailej, the authority is working to improve the working environment at airports by implementing an integrated system of cutting-edge technologies, such as smart positioning systems to track vehicles and equipment within the airfields, predictive analytics based on big data to identify risk indicators, training using virtual and augmented reality technologies, and smart monitoring systems for work conditions that link them to real-time surveillance cameras. All of these measures help to control traffic and prevent collisions.
